MEDIA RELEASE
Three Leaders from 1st Carlingford Scout Group were awarded their Wood Badges on Friday 3rd August at a combined Cub and Scout Campfire. Noriko Burrows, Cub Leader, Alison Mountford and Bryan Rigg, both Scout Leaders, completed their Advanced Training and each presented an individual project, which will help in the training of the youth members in the Group.
They were presented with their Wood Beads and the Gilwell Scarf and were admitted to 1st Gilwell Park Scout Group, a tradition dating back to the beginning of Scouting. The Wood Beads themselves are a replica of beads acquired by Lord Baden Powell in South Africa in 1887 following a battle against the Zulus. The Gilwell Scarf is only presented to Scout Leaders who complete the highest level of training. This is made of dove grey cloth (the colour of humility) with a warm red lining (to signify warmth of feeling), and a patch of Maclaren tartan on the point of the scarf.
All three Leaders will be travelling to the Jamboree in Maryborough Queensland in January, with 4 other Leaders and 13 Scouts from 1st Carlingford. The skills they have acquired will be a great asset at the Camp, which is expecting 15,000 Scouts from all over Australia for the 2 week event.
Many hours of training and weekends of preparation have gone in to getting the Troop ready for the event.
