In May 1813 explorers Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson made the first recognised European crossing of the Blue Mountains.
To commemorate the bi-centenary of this nation building event a re-enactment of the crossing will be undertaken by a group including descendants of the original explorers.
1st Hazelbrook Scouts are honoured to have been given the opportunity to host the re-enactment party at our hall during a leg of their expedition.
To help celebrate the bicentennial and raise some much needed money to fix our sad leaking roof 1st Hazelbrook are offering the broader scouting community the chance to purchase a commemorative holey dollar that is being produced in limited numbers for this event.
Holey Dollar - Australia’s first currency Governor Lachlan Macquarie acquired Spanish silver coins to overcome the problem of the early colony not having a currency. He punched out the centre of the coin (named the dump) to make the coins unique and to create two different values from the one coin.
Made of pewter these commemorative coins will be a high quality keepsake or souvenir of an important part of the history of not only Western NSW but also the entire state of NSW.
Coins are priced at $10 each + postage (depending on weight, to your local scout group) or picked up at no extra cost. Groups can submit a bulk orders for coins directly to our fundraising co-ordinator for their members by completing and returning this form via email to by 29 April 2013.
